She might be talking about the catalytic converter those are expensive can round you up to 1500 to fix depending what car it is

We got quoted $900 to replace brake drums (I believe) and I found that OUTRAGEOUS. We bought the parts ourselves and fixed it for less than $80.

If I am buying a used car, I would go for something reliable such as Honda or Toyota.

1975 Chrysler Cordoba, named the blue bomber. That was my baby. Had a hole in the gas tank, and back fired loudly.. I miss that car..

I once bought a used Buick LeSabre for $4000. I spent $1500 on engine repairs and I STILL had engine problems as well as a whole host of other problems.

At $800, it could be the catalytic converter?

Reply
jr5.o 07/12/2021 - 12:53 Sáng

So an exhaust leak? You can have someone weld that up for $80.. you need car friends because $800 is stupid.

Yes! Take care of the financial needs, and depends on the price of the fix’s.You don’t want to invest the money consistently. Time to upgrade!

If the car is so broken that you may not be able to get to work or your means of income then keeping some of the money back to fix it may be prudent. Yes paying off debt is important. But losing your job and means of income because you do not have reliable transportation to get there is also not going to allow you to pay off debt.

A new muffler runs 6-800, a repair is about 150. Fix it.

They likely got a quote at the dealer a regular little muffler shop likely do the job for a couple hundred.

Video_Watcher 07/12/2021 - 12:53 Sáng

It probably needs a catalytic converter not a muffler they just explained it as part of the muffler system because they figured she wouldn't understand what a catalytic converter was or what it does. That's why it's $800.

Maybe Dave is right about certain things, maybe certain things are useful. But he displays ill tempered and short tempered responses too many times. I just don’t have any patience for that. I have a life in ashes because I have paid attention to such people.

What good is a husband that can't take off a couple of bolts and put on another muffler? It shouldn't even need welding if I remember, I know the Cat has to be welded on but pretty sure you just remove a couple of rusty bolts and muffler comes off.

I think the emergency fund should be based on like half months salary not just 1000.

Reply
NeoAndersonReloaded 07/12/2021 - 12:53 Sáng

Might need a new Cat. Try the exhaust wrap.

yarrdayarrdayarrda 07/12/2021 - 12:53 Sáng

Another shop will just weld a section of pipe to replace the piece that's got the hole in it.

Reply
Jaime Jimenez 07/12/2021 - 12:53 Sáng

If its an exhaust leak, a lil high temp jb weld or exhaust sealer will fix it cheap

God told Moses to speak to the rock Dave! I remember "praying" a car to start everyday b4 I learned abt maintenance, and it worked 😂! But this lady needs to find a MUFFLER shop for her MUFFLER issues and compare btwn a few to get the best price.

a muffler should cost $150 – $300, a very few need more extensive piping that push the cost up, but $800 seems excessive
